Rules of Play

PPL.

RULES OF THE GAME

1. The game shall be known as 8 Ball Pool and referred to in these playing rules as “the Game”. It is intended that players and teams should play 8 Ball Pool in the true spirit of the game and in a sportsmanlike manner. It should be clearly understood that the Referee is the sole judge of what is fair and unfair play. The Referee will take whatever action is necessary to see that these rules are observed. It is the Referee’s responsibility to ensure that players are aware of and abide by the set rules.

2.  Each team match comprises six frames (four Singles and two Pairs). League positions will be determined by one point per frame won. In addition, if a team plays all six frames without losing then a bonus point will be awarded. If a team does not play the matches the opponents may claim the day and be awarded 7 points.(comprising of 6 frame points and a one point win bonus). The team that does not play will be penalised by the loss of 5 points on the league totals.

3. If a team shows up to a fixtures with less than 4 players, the opposing team can nominate which player/s plays twice before the frames begin.

4. Requirements of the Game – A frame is played with a group of 14 coloured balls, a black ball and a cue ball. At least one playable cue needs to be present.

4.1. If there are any issues with venues pool tables or equipment, please contact us to let us know as soon as possible and we will reach out to the venue to try and remedy the problem.

5. Object of the Game – The player or pair potting their coloured group first and then legally potting the 8 ball (black) wins the frame.

6. The order of setting up the balls for break - (From left->right) 1 - (2,1)- (1, black, 2) - (2,1,2,1) - (1,2,1,2,2)

7. Teams must allocate the order in which their frames are upon entering the venue - Not after discussing with opposite teams what there order is.

7.1. Flip a coin to determine who goes first (breaks) for every single frame within league fixtures.

7.2. Teams select the pairs of their opponents before the first frame of singles. This is to help towards diffusing strong pairs.

8. If multiple colours have been potted from the break, this remains a free table until an additional ball has been pocketed.

9. No free ball in league and tournament fixtures.

10. No jump shots in league and tournament fixtures.

11. Players must call which pocket they pot the black in advance, if the black ball goes in the wrong pocket then this is a foul and the player loses.

12. When the cue ball has been pocketed or has left the table, the white ball must be placed behind the white line and must be shot in a forward manner.

13. Players must always have at least one foot on the ground when taking a shot.

14. This is not speed pool but be cautious of your fellow men. Sportsmanship is always encouraged but the average shot between players should be 30-90 seconds maximum. This is to ensure the we hold to our allocated venue time and to set all teams expectations of how long they are needed for fixtures.
